A weight loss practice is interesting to say the least, I have to be able to impact my slim down clients with a certain/precise and easy to implement diet program, without them feeling starved and or deprived. I am able to address the all important emotional and habit side of weight loss and weight gain. But I can do nothing unless I have before me a client who is committed and dedicated to creating change in their life for a better future.
I am a certified clinical hypnotherapist and I know how the mind works when it comes to weight loss and weight gain, I also understand self sabotage. I cannot make anyone do anything they do not want to do, but I can take that special person who is motivated to slim down and to become healthy, and I can make the entire process for them easy, exciting and fun. It is fun and it is exciting to see yourself dropping 30 pounds in 10 weeks for a woman and dropping 50 pounds in 10 weeks for a man. Weight loss like this is safe and it does not involve starvation. My program is muscle sparing and fat targeting, current research points to the fact that fast weight loss in the manner in which we do it, has a much better long term outcome than does a slow and boring weight loss approach.
What many people do not understand is that if you have excess weight to lose then you have a fat "storing" metabolism, some people say they have a "sluggish" metabolism, same thing. I will have clients come in that tell me they lost 80 lbs. on XYZ program and then they gained it all back. I ask them why they gained it all back and they shrug their shoulders and explain to me the program was over. Well, there are two major reasons or considerations here that we must examine as to why they really gained it all back again...
If you have 150 lbs. to lose and you only lose 80 lbs. and decide that you are happy with your weight loss and you want to call it quits, guess what-- you are going to gain it all back. Let me tell you why. If you are a 5'5" woman, your ideal body weight is going to be around 118-125 and that is just an estimate based on height. What you should really weigh should be based upon your body composition evaluation involving your body fat percent and your visceral fat rating. I want to take you into your ideal body composition weight zone and have you live there for a few weeks, experiencing what it feels like and then allow you to establish your personal ideal "set point" weight. Your set point is that specific weight near your normal body composition values, where you really feel your very best, we then lock that into place as your set point weight that you will monitor. Maybe the ideal set point for the lady above is 122 lbs. and at this weight she will experience an efficient metabolism and she will be a "fat burner," no longer will she be experiencing a fat storing metabolism. It will now be much more difficult for her to "store" any extra weight, her body will burn it off, her metabolism is now efficient.
The problem most people have with achieving weight loss for life and establishing a fat burning metabolism, is they quit their program before realizing their ideal weight. For example, a person who needs to lose 100 lbs. will often say to themselves after losing 60 lbs., "this is good enough for me, I look so much better, I feel so much better, I am happy with this 60 lbs. of fat loss, I am going to quit and get on with my life, I am done..." The problem with this decision is that they are still 40 lbs. over weight and their metabolism is still inefficient and they are still a fat storing entity. So they stop their program half way, they do not take themselves into their ideal weight where they would transform their metabolism, balance their hormones and become a fat burner--no longer a fat storer. What these people soon realize, is that with-in a short period of time, they put back on all the weight they had lost.
What must happen for a client to achieve weight loss for life is they must reach their ideal body weight, based upon their height, their body fat percent and visceral fat rating and then they must find their specific set point weight where they feel fit and healthy and energetic. They must lose ALL the weight so they become a fat BURNER and then they must realize that their program is NEVER over. The 30/10 weight loss solution does not end when you reach your ideal weight. As I tell each and every slim down client, "I will not abandon you once you REACH your IDEAL weight on this program." And what this means is that I want you to continue to come in for frequent periodic body composition weigh-ins, at NO CHARGE, for the rest of your life. This is important and essential, to be certain the HABITS and BEHAVIORS that made you fat in the first place are not allowed to kidnap you ever again. This accountability is critical for you and the on-going coaching and support is instrumental in creating LONG TERM constructive change for you.
We all fluctuate in weight above and below our set point and this is normal. If you come in for a routine weigh in after you have become a SUCCESS client (reached your ideal body weight/set point) and you have gained 4-6 lbs., then we coach you on how to error correct this gain by yourself at home with regular foods. We want to catch any and all weight gains early and then educate you on how to correct that gain yourself. Over time this will empower you with skills, confidence and knowledge so that you have total control over what you eat and total control over any weight gain above your ideal body weight. It is really as easy as pie, really it is. Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle.
