#41) Free At Last, free at last...

Elderly gentleman called my office earlier in the week  to schedule with me a session of DEEP Release.  Today was his appointment day and I was impressed by him, an energetic 77 year old guy who told me he wanted to erase the highly charged emotions around a divorce he had had some 25 years ago.  "The feelings just don't go away Doc, I  think about my divorce every day and it has ruined my life, my piece of mind and I do not know what to do about it, except I think you may be able to help me as I have read all your blogs on this subject..."

I had to respect this guy, he knew what he wanted and he did not want to continue to entertain the emotions he had been rehearsing and replaying the past 25 years that had made him miserable on a daily basis.   I had him close his eyes and go into the memory of this divorce, "go into the memory and the pictures and the feelings that you visit every day that make you feel bad," I encouraged him. He proved to be very good at this, in a matter of seconds he was there, in his mind, playing out the movie he had replayed over and over again for the past 25 years.  The sadness, the anger, resentment, betrayals, rejections, guilt, remorse and regret.  With 4 passes of the DEEP Release Clear Mind Process he was totally and completely free of the negative charges associated with this charged memory.  His body completely relaxed and he gave a deep deep sigh of relief as he realized the charge was gone, "it feels good now doc, it feels real good, I wish I knew this could be done for me 25 years ago, so amazing, there is nothing there now, just peace and calm."

In a matter of minutes we resolved this issue and so I asked him if there was something else from his past that he would like to change.  Yes there was and he took me back to age 12, when he was a small boy and witnessed his father beating his mother viciously and all he could do at the time was stand by and watch, his father "drunked up" and verbally, emotionally and physically abusing his mother.  He repeated he wished himself dead many a time, "there was nothing I could do but I should have done something, I feel so guilty, so sad,  angry, helpless, worthless..."   This release took longer, 10 minutes to erase the charge of the emotions held for over 65 years.

He was for me an amazing guy, he was introspective enough to know he was trapped in this emotional replay of his past but he did not know how to stop the merry go round and get off.  However, he knew enough to know that the work I do could set him free. When  we were done with the DEEP Process on this issue,  I swear he even looked different, younger, certainly more relaxed  and happy.  Free at last, free at last, I thank God he is free at last...  Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle

#40) Hypnosis-Wt Loss-Success!

Interesting morning, I had a new slim down client begin a 10 week program. In 10 weeks I told her   she could lose 40lbs and that she could do this without starving and without hunger or uncontrollable cravings.   She weighs in at 236 and has 100+lbs. to lose to achieve her ideal weight.  She is 28 years old and a professional women with a great career but she had some apprehension I could tell, when I asked her if she thought she could achieve weight loss for life.

With that question asked she fought back tears as she told me she had lost a lot of weight several years ago, only to gain it all back.  She said that no sooner had she lost all her weight then her older sister sat her down and told her she was just going to gain it all back again and that she will always be fat because family genetics dictate this fact.

Now I am a clinical hypnotherapist and I have created the DEEP Release Clear Mind Process for the release/erase of negatively charged emotions.  I asked her if she would like to have these strong feelings and fears erased, the anger at sister, the sadness and guilt of having gained the weight back and the false belief underneath it all that she is genetically destined to be fat?  With the tears flowing she told me she would like to be free of these feelings that have held her back from weight loss success.  In a matter of minutes, with several applications of the  DEEP Release process, she was smiling and now confident she could achieve weight loss for life.  She was no longer sad nor angry  at her sister who she felt had under minded her.  She could not find the belief she had had just minutes earlier that she was destined to be fat for the rest of her life.

She had been totally confident in her ability to lose this weight but had had a strong fear of failure as it related to weight loss for life.  I am confident  she will easily  lose this weight with the 30/10 solution  and do so at 4 to 5 lbs. per week.  It made her feel very good to know that this time, when she reaches her ideal weight, that we will not abandon her.  I let her know that I will want her to come in for frequent periodic weigh-ins for the rest of her life at no charge.  Should she experience a weight gain (which we all do, it is normal and natural for us to fluctuate up and down in weight) then we will catch it early on with a weigh-in and we will coach her on how to "error correct" the gain herself with regular foods.  The secret here is to catch any weight gain early on when 6 or 9 lbs. can be easily dropped all by herself in a matter of 2 to 3 weeks.  Imagine, over time,  the confidence, skill  and the certainty it will give her to know, from experience,  that she can easily lose any weight gained-3lbs a week, on her own.  I want my slim down patients who reach their ideal weight to become empowered and to be in total control of their desired weight for the rest of their life, that is what we define as  "weight loss for life."

50% of weight gain is diet,  the other 50% is mental/emotional/habit and both must be addressed to achieve weight loss for life.  I find hypnosis to be the missing link, any resistance to your success in either losing the weight or keeping it off must be erased.  If you are fearful and anxious you cannot lose the weight then the process will be difficult for you and destined for failure.  If you believe you can lose the weight but believe you will gain it all back then you probably will.  These fears and false beliefs must be changed so that your beliefs and emotions support your desired state of being.  Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle

#39) Down 18.8 LBS. in one WEEK!!

I had a new "biggest winner" client this week.  Gentleman who started the 30/10 Weight Loss For Life program one week ago had his first week weigh-in yesterday, he was down 18.8 lbs.!!  His starting weight was 395.

My biggest winner female this week  is 5' 2" and her initial weigh-in last week was  at 166 lbs.
She lost 9.6 lbs. in her first week.

Both "winning"  clients reported great energy and no hunger or cravings for their first week.
The only exercise I want my clients to do is a brisk 20 min  walk every day if they are able.  Some of my clients are so heavy that they cannot do a walk  and that is fine, they will still lose big weight.

50% of weight loss and weight gain is diet and the other 50% is mental/emotional/habit.  The 30/10 solution provides clients with excellent products for breakfast, lunch, 3:00 snack.  They will have only one meal a day that they will have to prepare for themselves and that will be a dinner per my specifications.  They will also need to add veggies to the lunch product that I provide.

My 475 lb. client who started last week, I provided him with two breakfast products, two lunch products, two 3:00 snacks and two other products for after dinner.  Everyone is different based on their size and weight and on their hunger and craving issues as to the number of products I provide to make them comfortable and keep them satisfied.  The 30/10  Weight Loss For Life program is not about starving, it is about letting go the junk and adding good nutrition back into your diet.  Most overweight people are in my opinion, nutritionally starved and hence the hunger and the cravings.
Some folks stress or emotionally eat, it is not body hunger that they are overeating for.  Helping clients slim down and get healthy again is fun and when the weight drops off quickly and effortlessly, the process of change  becomes exciting and encouraging.

The really great aspect of this program is that we will not abandon you after you have reached your ideal weight.  We want you to continue to come in for periodic/frequent accountability weigh-ins at no charge-for the rest of your life.  We want you to gain the experience and the skill and the certainly that comes with "error correcting" any "early" weight gains, by yourself, with regular foods.  We all fluctuate in weight above and below our ideal weight and this is normal.  With the 30/10  program we want you to develop the skills, knowledge and experience of losing any gained weight on your own, so you can become empowered with your own ability to keep the weight off .  We are your source of accountability and your coach for as long as you  desire.

Since 50% of weight gain and weight loss is mental/emotional/habit,  I address this vital aspect component of weight gain with hypnosis.  As I tell all my clients, the 30/10 WLFL program is as easy as pie.  Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle.

30/10 means women average 30lbs. in 10 weeks (3 lbs. per week)  and men average 50/10 ( 5 lbs. per week).

Your personal Ideal weight is based upon science and fact.  We look to see your body fat composition percent into the  normal range for your age group and for your visceral fat rating to also fall into the  normal range.  When your body composition numbers fall into the normal range then you have reached your "ideal" weight.  A client's "target" weight is typically a weight number they pull out of their hat based upon emotion.  The target weight is not based on science and fact and is most often a number that would keep the client still over weight with the same sluggish, fat storing metabolism as they started with.  When you reach your ideal weight your metabolism becomes fast and efficient and you become a fat burner as your hormones come back into balance and your activity level naturally increases.  From your "ideal" weight you then establish your "set point" weight, that specific body weight number where you feel and look your best within the parameters of  normal body composition findings for body fat percent and visceral fat rating,  for your age group.

Dr. Doyle is co-founder of the 30/10 Weight Loss For Life slim down program.  He is a clinical hypnotherapist registered with the State of Washington and he is a member of the American Hypnosis Association.  He created the DEEP Release Clear Mind Process for effective stress reduction and for the release of highly charged negative trapped emotions.  He finds hypnosis and an excellent dietary program to be the key to addressing difficult to lose weight conditions.  He believes  that a weight loss program should be easy and without starvation.  Starvation diets are counter productive.  His slim down program has two goals and objectives and that is for the client to reach their ideal weight  quickly  with a smile on their face throughout the process and most important is that once the weight is lost, the client achieves weight loss for life because they become empowered with the knowledge, skill and experience to lose any future gained weight on their own. When you reach your ideal weight in our 30/10 clinic, we will never abandon you, we want you to continue to come in for frequent/periodic accountability weigh-ins,  at no charge, for the rest of your life.

Dr. Doyle has two different blog sites, go to his 8thStreetChiro blog spot highlighted above to read about the DEEP Release process and his many blogs (over 100) on the magic of appreciation and "mind."  Dr. Doyle has written two books,  Weight Loss For Life-released 2012,  and Stop The Pain-released Jan 2013.

#38) do you have A mOnKeY MIND?

Do you have a monkey mind?   Many people do have a monkey mind  and it causes them considerable distress and varying degrees  of dysfunction in their day to day lives.  The question I sometimes ask a client during a hypnotherapy session is, "who is in charge of what you think or dwell upon during the day and who is in charge of how you feel emotionally?"  The average response I get is a shrug of the shoulders and an "I don't know."  I then go on to explain that the way our brain works is that we are designed to have a constant barrage of thoughts that come up, one thought after another and the thought that has emotion attached to it is the one that we will then give some time and attention to or it can be said that we will "entertain" that thought.   Then if we entertain that thought and feeling we will automatically attract other similar thoughts and feelings, giving us a choice of a wider array of similar vein thoughts with emotions.  If these thoughts with emotions are uplifting and empowering then great for us, but if these thoughts are negative and toxic then we become sad, mad, fearful and anxious.  We are always reflecting on our past good or bad memories or we are anticipating future best and or worst case scenarios.  Not very often are we in a state of peace and appreciation for the now moment.

We are meant to be the  "keepers" at our gate, we are the "bouncer" for the thoughts that constantly flood our consciousness.  But very few people realize they are supposed to be the "channel changer" for these thoughts and attached feelings that pop into their mind, every second of every minute.   If you were watching tv with channel changer in hand, you would not sit and watch/entertain  the garbage that exists on every channel, you would surf right by the shows that did not fit your criteria for interest, you would hopefully just sit to watch/entertain those shows that positively entertain and motivate you and you might just pass on the horror films, the totally stupid reality shows and others.  If you have a child you want your kid to watch only shows that uplift, educate and positively entertain.  Well, guess what, we have a built in channel changer  within us and that is our decision and choice to think a better feeling thought any time we find ourselves attempting to entertain a garbage thought/emotion.  When a negative thought comes onto your television screen of awareness, simply stop it in its tracks, put your hand up in front of you, in the screen of your mind and say STOP, I choose to think a better feeling thought.  If you can then decide to immediately think the inverse of that negative thought  and then  choose to entertain or spend time with the new more empowering inverse thought, you will have initiated a process of choice and control for yourself.  Realize that you may be an individual who has chronic habitual negative thinking and so this process may be difficult at first and will take some time and effort to begin to shift you into the habit of stopping those thoughts and error correcting them.

You are the Keeper/bouncer of your thoughts and feelings, you are the captain of your ship, you are designed to be in control of what you feel and experience in your mind.  When you are not in control of what you think and feel it can be said you have a "monkey mind."  A monkey mind pretty much says it all and if you want to begin the process of putting that monkey back in the cage then start today to read my  many blogs at   www.8thStreetChiro.blogspot.com,  read the blogs having to do with the DEEP Release Clear Mind Process or blogs having to do with MIND.   Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle.

Competition: Bernard Matthew's "Chef Inspired" Winter Recipe Competition

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while- with all the whirlwind of Christmas and the huge amount of University work and pressure, I just havent had any type to relax and keep up with the blog lately. Aaaanyway, so just before Christmas, I won this marvellous competition Bernard Matthew has been holding for chefs. For each season, professional chefs were supposed to come up with innovative and delicious recipes for turkey. My Winter Turkey Casserole with Leek Mash won, and I received £100 Russums (a caterer- check out their site at http://www.russums-shop.co.uk) vouchers, a branded Craft Guild of Chefs' set of chef whites, and a whole load of turkey! Bootiful!!!

Was very proud of it, heres the blurb they wrote about it all as well, sounds so professional:

Our new Chef Inspired section is a collaboration of delicious seasonal turkey recipes, tips and techniques from expert chefs from across the industry, compiled to help you make the most from British turkey in order to create profitable, tasty turkey dishes for use on menus all year round.

‘’This season’s winning British turkey recipe is Turkey and Winter Vegetable Casserole with Leek Mash, brought to you by Melanie Booth, chef at Bath’s Cosy Club. The dish was chosen by the Craft Guild of Chefs from scores of submitted recipes as a ‘gloriously hearty dish that would work well on winter menus.’ CEO of the Craft Guild of Chefs Martin Bates said: “This is a really comforting winter recipe, and just reading the ingredients makes your heart and tummy warm,” he said. “The use of leek in the mash makes the perfect accompaniment.”

So without further ado, here's the winning recipe!!
Turkey and Winter Veg Casserole with leek mash (serves 4)

1 tbsp olive oil
1 knob of butter
1 white onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 sprig fresh rosemary, sprigged and finely chopped
800g diced raw turkey breast
2 parsnips, peeled and diced
4 carrots, peeled and diced
500ml chicken stock
1 tbsp Worchester sauce
2 tbsp corn flour, mixed with a little water
Salt and pepper to taste.

750g potatoes, peeled and chopped
2 large leeks, diced.
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
60g butter
Salt and pepper to taste

1. Preheat the oven to 180C. Fry the onions, garlic and rosemary in the oil and butter in a large casserole pan for 5 minutes, stirring often.
2. Add the turkey and cook for a further 5 minutes. Add all the other ingredients (except the cornflour), cover the casserole, and put in the oven for 1 hour.
3. Remove from the oven, add the corn flour, stir in well, and put back in the oven for 1 hour.
4. Meanwhile, put a large pan of salted water onto the boil. Add the potatoes and cook until soft. In another pan, fry the spring onions (or leeks) for about 5 minutes or beginning to turn golden.
5. Drain and mash the potatoes, mix in butter, the cooked spring onions, fresh parsley and salt and pepper to taste. Serve the casserole with spring onion mash.

*For caterers, the casserole and mash can be cooked seperately, then microwaved for 2 minutes and served with eachother. The recipe is also very easily multiplied and can be cooked in large batches

Happy anniversary Rubbish Diet! Five years old today.

Distracted by the snow,  today's school closure and the prospect of sledging with the 8 year old, it almost passed me by that today is the fifth anniversary of when I launched The Rubbish Diet blog.

So forgive my momentary lapse of celebration as well as my now very loud 'whoop-whoop'!

5 years!  Blimmin' 'eck!

Back then, I didn't think I'd still be blogging about rubbish even a few months later, let alone five years on.  And as for the amount of rubbish I've avoided and the money saved, that's worth celebrating in itself.

So, thank you to ALL who have inspired me and to everyone who has taken steps to make a positive difference to help reduce the amount of waste our society generates.

I hope this is going to be a very exciting year in the world of bin-slimming and as I turned over the calendar this year, I realised that for the first year ever The Rubbish Diet is actually now bigger than this blog, developing a life of its own out there in the big wide world, like a small child that you wave off to school for the very first time.

Following hot on the heels of the first Rubbish Diet Shropshire trial, which took place last year,  it feels appropriate that today, of all days, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust launches its own Rubbish Diet challenge, engaging 15 households in the process of slimming their bins over an eight week period, following the very same method that I took back in 2008.

I can't wait to find out how they all get on and I look forward to heading down to Wiltshire to help celebrate during their finale, a Zero Waste Week, which takes place in March.

And March will indeed be a hectic month in more ways than one.  Not only is there a fair chance that you could see 'Yours Truly' making an appearance on The One Show, but I am also looking forward to representing the Zero Waste Alliance UK at an International Zero Waste Symposium, which takes place in San Francisco.  I am, as you can probably guess, both nervous and excited!

And that's just March.  Gawd knows what will happen during the rest of the year.... well, I have an inkling, but for now will just cross my fingers and wait, and burst into song only when necessary.

So, thank you all again for your inspiration, support and engagement.  It's you that keeps me going as well as that HUGE pile of unnecessary waste!

I'm now looking forward to the next five years and encouraging even more people to join in and help tackle it together.

So good luck to everyone who takes up the challenge this year.  I hope it goes well for all involved.  It's really great to have even more people on board and I believe we can make a huge difference.

THANK YOU!!!

Now, I'm off to celebrate by dodging some snowballs and enjoying that sledge before the opportunity disappears...  ah, such imagery!

#37) Finding the LOVE with DEEP Release

The loss of a loved one can be particularly traumatic, especially when that loved one happens to be a child.  I had a wonderful lady come in to see me today to start my 30/10 Weight Loss For Life  slim down program and as we talked I learned there was something traumatic from her past that was negatively impacting her day to day experience.

She tearfully confessed of  the sudden accidental death of her 9 year old child some 25 years ago.  Tears flowed as she reflexively slipped into that long ago traumatic event, a sad sad memory  she had  replayed for herself  many many times  since her young boys  untimely death.

I asked her if she wanted to let go the grief and the sadness and the sorrow and the shock of this experience  and she quietly mouthed, "please help."   With 4 passes of the DEEP Release Clear Mind Process I successfully erased the sadness, the sorrow, the grief/loss and the shock of the unfortunate death of her young son.  She sunk in her seat as she relaxed into a state of peace and calm, for  the first time in 25 years she was able to finally let go the charged emotions from  this tragic loss long ago.

She was now able  to positively  reflect on the life of the son she loved so very much and to  realize he was still with her, he was to be found in her heart and she could now feel the love he had always had for her and the unconditional love she always had for him.  A love that had been blocked for so many years by the shock of the event and the resultant trapped, charged emotions of sadness, grief, sorrow and regret.

With the release/erase of these highly charged negative emotions, in a matter of minutes, she was able to magically shift her perspective so that she could now  honor the  memory of her son  and of his life and once again experience the love they had for one another.

We are all going to die and some of us die early and some of us die later, that is just the process of life, just the way it is.  But we must let go the grief and the sadness to regain that communication of love and of  peace and calm with our loved one.  That is how we honour the memory of those who have physically left us, the love and the good memories remain and we let go the rest.  Our loved one is now safe and we can now go about our lives as they would have wanted us to experience.  The love remains and what  we want to do is to reflect upon and embrace that love and those good feelings and positive memories as often as we can.  Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle

#36) Todays Biggest WINNER

Today I had my biggest "winner" have his one week weigh-in.  He is 5'10" tall and weighed in one week ago at 260 lbs.  He lost today, after 6 days on the 30/10 program a total of 16.8 lbs. WOW, that is huge, my  previous  biggest "winner" was a guy with similar amount of weight to lose who lost 12.8 lbs. in one full week.   Both guys on their one week weigh-in day said they felt great and were not hungry on the program.  My 12.8 guy continued to lose big pounds week after week on our slim down program, averaging  8 lbs. lost per week for the past 6 weeks.

30/10 Weight loss for Life means the average woman loses an average of 30 lbs. in 10 weeks and the average man loses an average of 50 lbs. in 10 weeks.  Men lose more then women because they have more muscle mass.  Not fair I know but that is just the way it works.

I love our 30/10 slim down system because it is so highly effective,  we make the process really easy and fun. I say fun because it is exciting to lose big weight every week and to feel and look good as you drop the weight.    I incorporate great food products to make it effortless and hypnosis to make it certain.  50% of weight loss and weight gain is diet but the other 50% is mental/emotional/habit and I address both aspects of this important equation.  We are all about weight loss for life and so when our clients reach their ideal weight we do not abandon them.  We want them to come back for frequent weigh-ins and coaching for the rest of their life at NO CHARGE.  We do not want anything to stand in the way of  their weight loss for life. I want my clients to be able to error correct themselves back to their ideal weight should they experience a weight gain of 3 to 4 pounds.  It is normal and natural for all of us to gain and lose weight as normal weekly/monthly fluctuations.  The person who has had weight issues needs to monitor their weight periodically and then error correct themselves when needed.    They will have the skills and the new metabolism to be in control of what they eat and how they now maintain their own weight.  Like I have always said,  it really is a piece of cake.  Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle.

Dr. Doyle is co-founder of the  30/10 Weight Loss For Life Program.  He is a clinical hypnotherapist registered with the State of Washington and a chiropractic physician with over 35years clinical experience.  He is co-author of  "Weight Loss For Life" released last year   and  his new book "Stop The Pain!" is now hot off the press.  He has created the DEEP Release Clear Mind Process.   The  Global 30/10 Weight Loss For Life program is now offered to clients around the world. He can be reached at 425-455-1881.

We've caught the swapping bug! Sustainable Bury launches its first Swap Shop

L-R: Pippa, Fiona & me: Some of the founding members of Sustainable Bury, at our very first Swap Shop. Photo credit: Sandy Jackson.

I've been to several 'Swap shops' or 'Give & Take' days organised by Transition Town groups around Suffolk. the last one being being held by Sustainable Bungay in September.  I must confess that when I left that event, I was both quite jealous that Bury St Edmunds didn't have such an occasion to get the good town-folk out swapping, but also very much inspired to do something about it.

After all, in Bungay, what I witnessed was not just a great way of motivating people to declutter their unwanted items and let someone else take them home for free, but there was also a fantastic vibrant community spirit.

Now left to my own devices, that inspiration might have remained a pipe dream due to competing priorities.  However, my visit to Bungay coincided with the gathering of like-minded folk in Bury St Edmunds - mainly in a pub - to organise a new Transition Town community group called Sustainable Bury.  As we were planning our events, I mentioned how much I'd love to bring the Swap Shop idea under our umbrella.  All it took was someone to suggest enthusiastically that we should run one just after Christmas and Bob's your uncle, the first community event for Sustainable Bury was born!  Such is the power of team-work.

The posters went up, leaflets were distributed and we received some great mentions on Radio Suffolk and excellent coverage in the Bury Free Press, but it was still quite nerve-wracking yesterday morning as we got ready for our 'big event'.  Would the good folk of Bury St Edmunds turn up?

Setting out the tables at the St John's Centre.

Thankfully, yes they did!

Including Kim, one of Bury St Edmunds' entertainment organisers.  I never did find out whether she took those funky specs home, but I really hope she did!

The idea was that people could drop off items that they no longer wanted and take anything away that they wished, for free!  If they didn't have anything to bring, they could simply leave a donation at their discretion.  Any items that were left, we simply pledged to donate them to the charity shops, dotted along St John's Street.

As with any Reuse event, the swap shop featured a real eclectic range of stuff.  I loved these little Saki cups.

And this unopened Body Shop gift pack was certainly a great find for its new owner.

As was this Past Times tea cosy. proclaiming "Where there's tea there's hope"!  That might become my new mantra.

I'm really pleased that for our first event we had around 30 people, perhaps even more.  To be honest, we were so busy listening to all the great feedback from the visitors who dropped by that it was really tricky to keep count.   In fact, the feedback that we received was so encouraging, we have decided to bring forward plans for our next Swap Shop, which we will now run in April.

I'm now looking forward to the Swap Shop becoming a regular event that supports the Reuse infrastructure in Suffolk, in a way that is truly fun and brings the community together.   For those who struggle to get stuff into town, it would also be wonderful for satellite events to be hosted by community centres and schools in the the surrounding estates and villages and I would certainly be happy to help get those rolling.

However, Sustainable Bury is not just about encouraging reuse and reducing waste, there are other great plans on the cards too.  There is a real wealth of ideas coming through, so if you have time, do check out this great piece by the Bury Free Press from yesterday's event, which also features a video of our members, sharing some thoughts about what they'd love the group to achieve.

#35) GLOBAL Wt LOSS- so very EASY

Two slim down successes today and both women, they had each  reached their ideal weight.  One was a very pretty 67 year old who went from 157 to 113 in 12 weeks.  She came in today for her weigh-in wearing new fitting clothes and she looked absolutely impressive.  She emotionally confessed it was the first time in many many years that she had felt the excitement of trying on fashionable clothes that fit well and showed off her long lost figure.  My other slim down lady is 56 years old and she slimmed down from a starting weight of 186lbs. to her ideal weight of 137.  She did an initial 10 week program and lost 30lbs and then continued with another 8 week where she lost 20lbs.  She came in today for her final weigh-in looking very good and so happy, she was now at her high school graduation weight of many years ago.

Both ladies were nervous and I knew full well their apprehension, they were afraid that they would gain the weight back.  I calmly explained to them that I would never abandon them and that I wanted them to come back  for frequent periodic weigh-ins at NO  CHARGE,  for the rest of their lives.  This accountability and continued coaching and support is essential to achieve weight loss for life.   We all have weight fluctuations, it is normal and natural and we want to have the ability to "error correct"   weight gain, early on and never allow unwanted weight gain to accumulate.  Our accountability weigh-ins are an essential component to changing habit and behavior over time and now that they are at their ideal weight they have a new, fast, efficient, fat burning metabolism that will allow them to enjoy life and enjoy food without the fear and apprehension of gaining the weight back again.  Weight loss for life is about reaching your ideal weight, changing your metabolism, participating in our accountability weigh-ins and becoming experienced and skilled in error correcting any early weight gain on your own, at home with regular food, with our coaching and support.

We only need to monitor our weight once a week, no more and no less.  If we weigh ourselves more frequent than that we set ourselves up for anxiety and frustration, it becomes counter productive. Once a week weigh-in is just right and if you do not like what you see in the numbers,  then simply error correct yourself the following week back to where you want to be.  Losing the weight with our coaching after you have reached your ideal weight will be easy as you now have a changed metabolism, your metabolism is now fast and efficient, you are a fat burner and you will feel a balance in your hormones. ( Read my other blogs that define and differentiate ideal weight from target weight.)

This system of weight loss we have developed over the years is by far the best we have ever seen, and our follow up and commitment to our client after they have reached their ideal weight is superb.  We will never let you down and  we will always be there for you.  We are now providing the 30/10 weight loss solution to clients around the world,  we send to you a body composition weigh-in scale, necessary foods and supplements, hypnosis tapes and all the support needed for you to do what it takes to slim down and achieve your ideal weight,  allowing  you to realize,  weight loss for life. You can do it, it really is,  as easy as pie.

#34) Biggest LOSER

I had my biggest one week weight loss loser this week, actually the guy is really a Winner. He weighed in around 250lbs one week ago and stands 5'10" tall.  He started my 30/10 Weight Loss For Life slim down program and on his one week weigh-in he lost a total of 13.8 pounds.  I see quite often 12 lb. one week losers but 13.8 lbs. just happens to take the record.  He ate breakfast, lunch, mid day snack, dinner and I provided him an extra food product to eat any time of the day he desired.  He told me it was easy, no cravings, no hunger, he was surprised how easy it was and elated at his first weeks performance on the scale.   His recommended exercise was a 20min brisk walk every day which he was able to fit in a few days out of that week.  I expect to see him drop 8 to 10 lbs. this coming week and then continue to average 5 to 7 lbs. a week until his ideal weight is achieved, which for him could be 70 lbs. lost in 12 weeks on the conservative side, he could do it in 10 weeks.  He feels great and he says he has more energy than he has had in years.

30/10 Weight Loss For Life means women average a loss of 30lbs in 10 weeks minimum when they follow the program precisely.  Men average 50/10.  Our program is comprehensive in that we address the diet side of this weight gain/weight loss equation and the mental/emotional/habit side as well.  We are all about weight loss for life, which means that when you reach your ideal weight we do not abandon you.  We want you to continue to come in to our clinic for frequent weigh-ins and coaching for no charge, for as long as is necessary to totally and completely empower you to be in control of your own weight loss-for life.  After your ideal weight is reached, frequent periodic weigh-ins are essential to change habit and behavior, any weight gains are caught early on and error corrected by the client with our coaching.

Our slim down program is fun and exciting and our patients love the process and how they feel,  as they shift into a new perspective.  We incorporate great food products and hypnosis to make slimming down as easy as is possible,  with weight loss for life the real goal and objective.

#33) Grains & Gluten #2

My previous post #28 on Hybrid Grains has been read worldwide and is very popular, it is no wonder, as many more people today suffer from gluten sensitivity than did in 1948 and 1954.  In 2009 a study was published in Gastroenterology which identified the dramatic rise in gluten sensitivity in the USA over the past 50 years.  What they did is they used blood samples of 9,133 healthy adults from Warren Air force Base that were collected in 1948 and 1954 and compared them to 12,768 similar matched subjects in 2009. They found the prevalence of celiac disease increased from 1 in 700 subjects in 1948, 1954,  to 1 in 100 in  the 2009 study!

They discovered a dramatic rise in celiac disease, (celiac disease is a severe reaction to gluten that leads to autoimmune destruction of the gastrointestinal tract).    Gluten sensitivity on the other hand means your immune system will develop an inflammatory response if you consume gluten and this response to gluten is typically against the brain and parts of the nervous system.  If you are gluten sensitive you need to go on a strict gluten free diet, especially if you have any neurological problems or your brain simply is not working.  No single dietary protein is a more potent trigger of neurological dysfunction and neuro-immunity  than gluten.

Deamidation is used in food processing and has served unfortunately to make gluten more immune reactive. Deamidation uses acids/enzymes to make gluten water soluble so that it mixes more easily with other foods.  Which is why today so many food/junk products have gluten/wheat as filler and base, such as cereals, chips, cookies and many other snack foods use deamidated wheat.  Even though this process makes it easier to use wheat in processed foods it has been found to create severe immune responses in people.  Researchers have concluded that deamidation of wheat creates new substances that activate the immune system and may be the cause of hidden inflammatory responses to foods (European Journal of Inflammation).  Some call this the "new wheat" the major driver of neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration and neuroimmune disease so prevalent in our population today.

If your doctor screens you for a reaction to gluten you want to ask what he is testing you for specifically.  Generally the standard test is for an isolated alpha gliadin and TG2 but guess what, many people have severe immune reactions to other portions or aspects of gluten.  A comprehensive gluten screen should include:  alpha gliadin, omega gliadin, gamma gliadin, deamidated gliadin,  gluteomorphin, prodynorphin, wheat germ agglutinin, transglutaminase-2, transglutaminase-3, transglutaminase-6.  Overwhelming isn't it, I believe the best  test for gluten sensitivity is to totally and completely eliminate all gluten and all cross reactive foods as I have discussed in blog #28 and see how you feel after several months.  Remember this essentially means all you eat is a healthy animal protein, a variety of veggies and fruit and you drink water.  Eat anything else and run the risk of consuming gluten or a cross reactive food, just a hint of gluten/wheat will trigger an immune response and negate your analysis.  It will take time for a hyper reactive immune system to quiet down if you can totally and completely abstain.

A great book to read is  "Why Isn't My Brain Working?" by Dr. Datis Kharrazian.  It is by far the best book I have yet to read on this very complicated subject.

Don't let food waste be next year's shock headline - my two penneth

Well Happy New Year everyone.  I can see it's kicked off in fine style!

Having just got used to my back-to-school routine and having my first day at the laptop, this morning I found my Twitter stream awash with the topic of food waste and the media's shock that statistics published by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers reveal that 30%-50% of the world's food never gets eaten.

These are huge figures to contemplate, whichever way you look at it, with growers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers all playing a key part or being affected.

But this isn't the first time that the headlines have been full to the brim with the horror of food waste.  Here's a random sample, taking us back to 2007, when I first became aware of the issue.

2012 - Unilever calls on companies to tackle food waste mountain

2011 - UK families are wasting less food but are told to do more

2010 - UK Restaurants waste 600,000 tons of food a year

2009 - Elimination of food waste could lift 1billion out of hunger, say campaigners

2008 - Brown urges Britons to cut food waste

2007 - Call to use leftovers and food waste

Despite making inroads into the waste mountain, I am very much concerned that each spell of outrage even when followed by best intentions, dwindles back towards stunted action, as we move on - for whatever reason - to other competing issues in our lives and organisations.

However, with austerity biting at politics, retailers as well as the householder, 2013 could very well be the year that we look back on as being a watershed period in all our efforts to tackle this huge issue.  There is certainly enough expertise around us to help, with WRAP offering a bank of resources for the hospitality and retail sectors as well as its Love Food Hate Waste website for consumers.  And saving money is a bloody good carrot to wave in front of our noses.

But even so, it can be very easy to slip into old routines when hit by everyday pressures, and that, especially for the householder, is one of the greatest problems in tackling food waste.

If that sounds like you, there are simple steps to help you grab the problem by the balls, and which will help to ensure that you're not contributing to next year's food waste horror story.

1. Make yourself accountable.   Tell your family, friends, Facebook pals, Tweeters or blog readers that you are determined to tackle food waste.  If you think it'll help to keep you motivated, get them to sponsor you for a good cause.

2. Set a deadline to help give you a focus.   For example, trying to reduce it over the next couple of months.  It takes a while for new habits to form, so commit to going the distance rather than the novelty of a short sprint.

3. Start a food waste diary, to identify what type of food goes to waste and why.  This will help uncover regular waste habits.  And remember, throwing that mouldy fruit into the compost bin is still a waste, even if you think you're going to get some 'free' compost out of it.

4. Use a separate bin to monitor your food waste.   Then rejoice when you see it reduce.

5. Stop buying things that you regularly throw away.  If you reduce the problem at source, you'll have pounds in your pocket and less food in the landfill heap.  Check out my ornamental melons story as a very good example.  If you have regular leftovers when buying takeaways, just buy less next time.

6. Freeze it!  Food labels now advise that you can freeze certain products up until the use-by date.

7. Visiting www.lovefoodhatewaste.com is a must!  You'll get top advice on portions, recipes for leftovers and food storage.

Of course, if you've got fire in your belly and want to do more to either understand or tackle the wider issues of food waste, there are various avenues available, including

  • Join food waste campaigner Tristram Stuart and his Feeding the 5000 campaign to help bring an end to food waste in the retail and supply chain.
  • Follow Kerry McCarthy MP and her work commitment to drive change through parliament.  See last year's blogpost about her Food Waste Bill.  And of course, you can always lobby your local MP to get behind the issue.
  • Contribute to the WI Great Food Debate, the NFWI's series of debates about Food Security, which reaches at the very heart of the organisation.

And last but not least, if you live in Wiltshire, Shropshire or Suffolk and want to get involved in slimming your waste-line either on your own or as part of a community project, keep your eyes peeled for some fantastic Rubbish Diet initiatives coming up.

For instance Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is kicking off the new year with a county-wide Rubbish Diet, which will mentor householders through slimming their bins over a period of 8 weeks. If we get through to the next round of the Nesta Waste Reduction Challenge competition, Rubbish Diet Shropshire will be hot on their heels in the springtime, with a choir, school and football club all joining in with the bin slimming antics.  And in Suffolk, my own neck of the woods, there'll be a lot of fun and games involving local well-known personalities who will be leading the way too.   Tackling waste will be a key topic for each of these projects.

Even if you're not a resident of any of these counties, hopefully you'll be inspired to take action from a distance and come together in National Zero Waste Week, which will be held in September, where there'll be another chance to work together to focus on reducing the amount of food waste, and other superfluous stuff that ends up in our bins.

Hopefully, this should all make for a great 2013, especially if we can pull together to ensure there are no shock food waste headlines this time next year.

And on that note... I'm off to have another word with my 8 year old, who's busy listening to BBC Newsround about this very topic.  Time to remind him about his bad habit of abandoning bread crusts!

#32) Slim Down from the Inside/out

Last week I weighed in  10 of my Weight Loss for Life clients who had just completed their first full week on the program.  A total of 6 men and 4 women and all the men began with an entry weight of over 246 pounds each.  Each man lost 12 pounds their first week, with one gentleman dropping 12.8 pounds.  They were all excited and enthusiastic about the program and amazed how easy it was.  I expect for week two they will lose 8 to 10 pounds and then if they do as I advise they will continue to easily lose 5 to 7 pounds a week for the next 10 weeks of their slim down program.

The four women ranged in weight from 160 to 240 pounds and  we had one drop 3.5 pound,  4.5 pounds, 5.5 pounds and 6.2 pounds for their first week.  Their second week will be equally good and then they should average 3-5 pounds a week if they do as I advise.

I make the slim down program really easy and clients don't get hungry and the program is not hard but the program is precise.  I incorporate some hypnosis as I am a clinical hypnotherapist. I also have my clients  enjoy a 20 minute infrared sauna in our clinic,  in conjunction with specific taped hypnosis sessions several times a week that begins to emotionally "shift" them as to how they look and feel about food and lifestyle issues.

I believe or should I say I understand that 50% of weight gain and weight loss is diet related and the other 50% is mental/emotional/habit, and both sides of this complicated equation must be addressed to achieve desired results, which is, weight loss for life.

The transformation we see in our clients is dramatic and inspiring, not just the physical transformation as the body slims down but the amazing transformation in their health profile.  Energy returns, sleep is improved, acid reflux is history, activity level increases, moods are changed, libido returns, and  medications are reduced or discontinued by their physician.

After a client reaches their ideal weight we have them come back for no charge weekly accountability weigh-ins that progress to bi-monthly weigh ins and then monthly weigh ins.  We will not abandon you as we know the importance of support and accountability after the initial weight loss goal is achieved.  The real goal for every 30/10 Weight Loss For Life client is weight loss for life and we will support and encourage you through out this lifetime process.  It is easier than you think, you just have to be ready to take the action step that will allow you to  slim you down from the inside (mental/emotional/habit and behavior) out.

Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle

#31) STOP the HEART-burn

Stop the heartburn, it is easy to remedy.  First stop eating all the sugary foods and beverages you love to consume.  Cut out all the  sugars, the breads, the cookies and the candies, chocolate, coffee and all the sweet drinks, even the diet drinks.  This will help you so much and then increase your consumption of veggies, plan on veggies for lunch and dinner.  To help keep yourself from craving your sweets you want to make sure you eat a good quality protein with each meal, for breakfast a couple eggs and half an apple or maybe a good quality protein drink.   For lunch an animal protein, either beef, pork, fish, egg, lamb and include a couple cups of a variety of veggies, either raw or lightly cooked, or consumed in a salad (the green leaf stuff) and put your veggies in the salad and then make sure your salad dressing has no sugar.  Same for dinner,  a protein and veggies.   For midday snack try small handful of raw walnuts or and almonds, pecans..., maybe a hardboiled egg, little hummus with your fav veggie.

This is important for you to know- if you have heartburn you may need to increase your HCl, your digestive enzymes and probiotics.  What to take can get complicated from the perspective of what to take and where to get the supplements you may require.

Tums are the wrong thing to take as it only creates lower stomach acid, you most likely need more.  If hcl bothers your stomach then stop taking it and see your doctor.    Remember not to drink fluids with your meals as you don't want to dilute stomach acid.  Make sure you are not constipated.  Drink more water during your day.  Get in  some good walking for exercise.  Decrease your stress level, increase stress depletes stomach acid.

It may take several months to fully remedy your heartburn issue but you will probably feel better within a couple of weeks by just changing up your diet and lifestyle as I have detailed in this blog.

As always, before you embark on any new program for your digestion and heartburn pain, first check in with your doctor.  It would also be a good idea to add in some probiotics to replace good bacteria in your colon.  Eating a healthy diet of veggies, protein and a fruit every day and stopping the sugar/sweets and excess coffee will be the real magic bullet, remember to drink more water, stop the  soft drinks and fruit drinks and the diet drinks.

Professor Yancy at Duke University enrolled 5 patients with severe GERD (acid reflux disease-essentially bad heartburn) in a study.  The study involved simply a low carb diet (no sugar of any kind as I described above)  and all 5 patients had their symptoms alleviated within a week.
By the way, obesity is an independent risk factor for GERD.  Another factor to consider is sugar feeds the bad bacteria in our colon, they love the sweets and they multiply as you feed them.

Oh yes, let go the stress in your life, just let it go, it does you no good, it does not make you better, does not resolve any issue and does not improve any condition or situation.  Until next time, Dr. Mark Doyle
